What We Offer
What Is a High Gloss Kitchen?
A high gloss kitchen features cabinets and surfaces with a reflective, mirror-like finish. This sheen helps bounce light around the room, which is especially helpful in kitchens that don’t get a lot of natural light. The effect is a space that feels brighter, more open, and generally more modern. The finish itself comes from acrylic or lacquered layers applied to materials like MDF (medium-density fibreboard), which allows a wide range of colours and a consistent shine across the surface.
Unlike matte cabinetry, which absorbs light, high gloss reflects it. This can make a room feel larger than it actually is, creating a simple yet striking design look. Glossy surfaces are particularly popular in modern kitchen styles but can also pair nicely with more classic design elements, think shaker-style doors finished in gloss white or soft grey.
The big visual impact isn’t the only benefit. As a material option, high gloss kitchens are versatile. You can choose from subtle shades like cream or dove grey, or go bold with navy, black, or deep green. Plus, the units can be paired easily with other finish types such as wood, stone, or brushed metal for contrast.
Here’s what makes High Gloss kitchens stand out
Reflective surfaces brighten up the room and make it feel more open
Available in a wide range of colours to suit most interior tastes
Gives off a premium look without costing a premium price
Pairs well with both modern and traditional kitchen elements
Easy to wipe down and keep clean with basic care
There are some misconceptions, though. For example, some people worry about visible fingerprints or light scratches. That’s a fair concern, especially in a busy family home. The good news is that most high gloss kitchen surfaces now come with improved finishes that reduce these issues. Plus, using soft cloths and proper gentle cleaning products can go a long way in keeping your kitchen looking sharp after installation.
A recent client in Sunderland, for instance, wanted a modern-style kitchen with minimal fuss. High gloss cabinets in slate grey with a simple white quartz worktop completely transformed their narrow space into something contemporary, airy, and functional. It’s changes like these that can really refresh a home.
This style lands right in a sweet spot between high-end design and everyday livability. If you’re after a modern look that genuinely works for households where cooking and day-to-day living happen side by side, high gloss might be your answer.
Timeless by Design
High Gloss Kitchen Design Options
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to designing a high gloss kitchen, which is part of its wide appeal. The glossy finish acts as a blank canvas that can be personalised through colours, handles, countertops, splashbacks, and floor pairings. You can steer it towards ultra-modern with handleless units and seamless surfaces, or bring in some balance by combining high gloss cabinets with natural textures like oak or stone.
Colour choice plays a big role here. Light shades like white or soft beige help open up smaller kitchens, while petrol blue, graphite, or dark olive can create a more dramatic, luxurious look. The trick is to think about how the finish will interact with light, natural and artificial, in your space. If your kitchen faces north or has fewer windows, a polished white or cream surface can really help lift the room.
Glossy kitchens pair well with
- White or grey quartz worktops for a clean contrast
- Integrated appliances for a more streamlined feel
- Chrome or brushed steel handles to keep the look sharp
- Soft-close cabinets and drawers to match the smooth appearance
If your household includes children, you might want to go for slightly darker cabinet colours. These tend to show fewer fingerprints and need less daily wiping, although modern high gloss finishes are much better now at disguising these marks altogether. Matching base and wall units in high gloss also works really well when you want a unified, tidy look across a room.
From an installation point of view, high gloss doesn’t require any unusual treatment. What does matter is how precisely the cabinetry is fitted, especially since the finish reflects light evenly. Poorly aligned doors or uneven gaps will stand out more than they would with textured materials, which is why working with experienced fitters makes a difference.

We made an appointment to meet James. He was so friendly and welcoming and sat and went through our kitchen makeover. Working with us to keep our granite worktops. Nothing was too much bother and he showed us different designs and handles. We chose a two tone kitchen which complimented each other from the brochure. Indigo blue on the top and light grey on the bottom. Throughout the service James kept us updated on delivery and we ended getting it delivered and fitted a week earlier which was fantastic customer service. James has a vast knowledge and this is due to his 20 years experience. James organised Ian to fit the kitchen. Ian was friendly, professional and very experienced which you can tell with the fitting of our kitchen. Ian tidied up after himself and kitchen was fitted in two days. We had a bad experience with the first company we used a few years ago for our kitchen very substandard work, rude and unhelpful staff so you can imagine we were very nervous to get a new kitchen. We should not have worried as James was amazing. The quality of units and finish has transformed our kitchen. We recommend Kitchen Studio for the whole experience of a new kitchen. We have enclosed before and after photos. Thank you James and Ian.

We felt very welcome in this new to Sunderland business. James explained he had been in the business for over 20 years but had recently relocated to Sunderland. We were his first customers through the door and were very impressed with the showroom.
We worked together on a design for the kitchen and very soon put our order in. In a matter of weeks my old kitchen was removed and Nigel the fitter did an excellent job. He was very knowledgeable about all aspects of the fitting and in less than 2 weeks I had my dream kitchen.
A shout out to Ricky Powney who tiled the walls in a very professional manner too.
