We made an appointment to meet James. He was so friendly and welcoming and sat and went through our kitchen makeover. Working with us to keep our granite worktops. Nothing was too much bother and he showed us different designs and handles. We chose a two tone kitchen which complimented each other from the brochure. Indigo blue on the top and light grey on the bottom. Throughout the service James kept us updated on delivery and we ended getting it delivered and fitted a week earlier which was fantastic customer service. James has a vast knowledge and this is due to his 20 years experience. James organised Ian to fit the kitchen. Ian was friendly, professional and very experienced which you can tell with the fitting of our kitchen. Ian tidied up after himself and kitchen was fitted in two days. We had a bad experience with the first company we used a few years ago for our kitchen very substandard work, rude and unhelpful staff so you can imagine we were very nervous to get a new kitchen. We should not have worried as James was amazing. The quality of units and finish has transformed our kitchen. We recommend Kitchen Studio for the whole experience of a new kitchen. We have enclosed before and after photos. Thank you James and Ian.

We felt very welcome in this new to Sunderland business. James explained he had been in the business for over 20 years but had recently relocated to Sunderland. We were his first customers through the door and were very impressed with the showroom.
We worked together on a design for the kitchen and very soon put our order in. In a matter of weeks my old kitchen was removed and Nigel the fitter did an excellent job. He was very knowledgeable about all aspects of the fitting and in less than 2 weeks I had my dream kitchen.
A shout out to Ricky Powney who tiled the walls in a very professional manner too.

Transform Your Kitchen with Cabinet Painting and Finishing in Sunderland
Updating your kitchen does not always mean starting from scratch. For homeowners in Sunderland and the surrounding areas, cabinet painting and finishing offers a clever way to revitalise dated or worn kitchen units without the cost and disruption of a full replacement. It provides the flexibility to change the visual style of your kitchen while maintaining the existing layout and functional elements that still work well.
At Kitchen Studio, we have more than 20 years of experience helping local homeowners breathe new life into their kitchens through expert design and skilled workmanship. Cabinet painting and finishing is one of the most efficient and budget-friendly improvements available, especially when your units are structurally sound but in need of a visual refresh.
Why Choose Cabinet Painting and Finishing
In many cases, your kitchen layout functions perfectly, and the cabinets have not lost their integrity. However, the appearance may feel outdated or simply not align with your current taste. Cabinet painting and finishing is ideal in these cases, as it allows you to upgrade the look of your kitchen while preserving materials and reducing waste.
Key benefits include:
- Significantly lower cost than a full cabinet replacement
- Minimal disruption during work compared to full renovation
- Huge variety of colour and finish combinations
- Preservation of existing structure and layout
- Environmentally friendly option by reusing existing materials
For example, a family in Seaham chose to revitalise their aged oak cabinets with a sophisticated slate grey in a satin finish. The transformation brought a modern, sleek feel to the space without altering the kitchen footprint. It gave them a completely new aesthetic with less downtime, expense and mess than a full kitchen replacement.
How Our Process Works
We take a thorough and professional approach to every cabinet painting and finishing project in Sunderland. It begins with an initial in-home consultation where we assess your current cabinets, answer your questions and discuss design preferences. Colours are selected based on your overall kitchen design, including wall tones, worktops and flooring.
Preparation is vital for long-lasting results. Each surface is carefully cleaned, sanded and primed using the appropriate method for your cabinet material. We then apply high-performance paint that is designed specifically for kitchen environments, resistant to stains, heat and moisture.
We finish each job with detailed inspection and final touch-ups to ensure a polished, even result. This process ensures better adhesion, longer durability and a professional appearance that store-bought solutions or rushed paint jobs simply cannot achieve.
Finish Options to Match Any Style
One of the greatest strengths of cabinet painting and finishing is the wide variety of finishes and colours available. Whether you lean toward bold, modern hues or subtle heritage tones, we have options to suit every taste.
Our curated colour options include:
- Satin finishes for soft reflections and modern appeal
- Eggshell tonality in natural greens, creams and subtle shades for heritage-style kitchens
- High-gloss navy, white, or charcoal for a sharp, contemporary look
- Textured and distressed finishes for rustic or country-style kitchens
We also offer a colour-matching service. If you are retaining features such as existing tile, benchtop, or flooring finishes, we will help you find a colour scheme that ties everything together seamlessly.
When Cabinet Refinishing May Not Be Suitable
There are situations where cabinet painting and refinishing may not be the right solution. If your kitchen units have water damage, warped surfaces or compromised structures, a more extensive replacement may be required. Likewise, if you are changing your kitchen layout entirely, new cabinetry may be the better route.
We provide honest guidance during your consultation and can offer full kitchen installation design and fitting services if needed. Our goal is to find the best solution for your home, not push you in a particular direction.

Refresh Your Kitchen with Less Disruption
